WOMAN TO WATCH:  ELAINE COMARELLA

Elaine ComarellaElaine Comarella, CEO of Hickok Center for Brain Injury, grew up on a Connecticut dairy farm enjoying the country lifestyle.

Her world suddenly changed when her father died of a heart attack. She was 16 years old. Feeling isolated and alone, she quit school and went to work in a nearby factory. A year later her mother remarried, sold the house and told Elaine to find another place to live.

"I had a non-traditional life after my father died," says Comarella, who left her factory job to work for Mansfield State Training School and Hospital, a large residential state-run facility for people with developmental disabilities. She worked there for 10 years and learned "how people shouldn't be treated."  Click here to read more
